Resources and Documentation - ACORD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACORD ( http://www.acord.org ) is a not-for-profit, global insurance standards organisation that has been serving the industry since 1970. Its aim is to improve industry efficiency by developing, maintaining and encouraging the implementation of data standards, electronic interchange and the identification of standard processes. ACORD also aims to improve inter-working with related technology, insurance and other industry standards. ACORD uses the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as the basis for its own standards which cover three domains of insurance; Property, Casualty and Surety (PCS, i.e. personal lines and small commercial), Reinsurance and Large Commercial (RLC) and Life and Annuity (L&A). ACORD standards are non-competitive and practitioner membership from the EU is involved in the ACORD working processes and evolution of standards. ACORD has a number of strategic goals which can be summarised as follows: - The Insurance/Reinsurance industry has one common set of business and data definitions.
- These standards are used for any technology or process solution built for the insurance industry.
ACORD is a member run organisation and members have a large say in the ACORD work programmes. ACORD has nearly 500 worldwide members. Back to Standards
