Phased Implementation of ACORD standards

Phased Implementation of ACORD standards
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ACORD acknowledges that the full message standards and process functions may not be implemented in initial implementations. However, implementation of the standards in a phased way is feasible and a valid, realistic option – implementations in bite sized chunks leading to the end-goal.

As an example the ACORD placing message contains over 300 data items, only a fraction of these may be currently contained in a broker’s or underwriter’s system. Initial phases would implement a defined sub-sets of the data items.

Some organisations may want to send additional data to a certain business partner rather than that specified in a defined implementation phase. Providing this data is within the overall standard then this is still compliant. An organisation who receives this additional data can either electronically process it or just store the details. Refer to the conceptual illustration below.

Where an organisation requires additional information not within the standard then they should seek to enhance the standard accordingly.
