Electronic Market Reform Contract Endorsement (e-MRCE) - Technology issues FAQ 1. I am finding it difficult to follow the different reform plans. Can you advise me whether I should be using ACORD messaging, a trading platform or email for my endorsements? The emphasis of email use is the extension of existing practices using familiar technology. It is not in competition with the other methods and is being planned in conjunction with the electronic messaging initiatives. We would like to see ACORD messaging usage grow as fast as possible, but email has some large, immediate benefits that are critical for this market to capitalise on.
2. As an insurer we are busy implementing electronic messaging. It appears that I may receive endorsements via ACORD messages, through face to face visits and now receive via email as well. Won’t this mean I’ll have to run multiple processes? Each of the channels you describe are a reality. You will certainly have to organise your work and systems to process transactions via these different means. However, each one has value and allows work to be assigned and controlled in a way that previously was not possible. 3. How will underwriters prioritise between face to face visits and email? What if I have an urgent endorsement which I want to discuss with the underwriter and I find they are busy dealing with emails? Changes of this nature address the need to improve the use of skilled resources and allow insurers to improve the way they offer service to brokers. It remains important for both brokers and insurers to manage their operational relationships to best advantage of both parties.
